Dan Charleson served 30 years with the New York State Police, rising through the ranks to become Acting Major, commanding the Protective Services Detail responsible for all dignitary protection across the entire State of New York.

In that role, he oversaw daily security operations for the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of New York and their families. His unit also coordinated protection for high-level dignitaries visiting the state, particularly in Manhattan, including the Speaker of the House, congressional leadership, members of the President’s Cabinet, foreign dignitaries, and other governors and state representatives.

Captain Charleson trained with the U.S. Secret Service, including its Counter Assault Team (CAT) and HAMMER teams, the U.S. State Department Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), the NYPD Intelligence Division, the Department of Homeland Security, and Israel’s Shin Bet.

He coordinated dignitary protection operations for major national events such as the Super Bowl, World Series , and National Political Conventions, as well as numerous cross-country and international trips.

Following his retirement from state service, Dan was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety for the City of Saratoga Springs, New York. In this role, he oversees the daily operations of the Saratoga Springs Police and Fire Departments, as well as the City’s Codes, Parking, Animal Control, and Traffic Maintenance divisions. He manages a budget exceeding $36 million and supervises more than 200+ employees.

He holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

STEPHEN JIAMPETTI

Lieutenant Steve Jiampetti retired after a distinguished 32-year career with the New York State Police, marked by exceptional leadership and specialized expertise. Rising through the ranks, Steve began in first-line supervision, managing both patrol teams in the field and evidence handling units with the forensic laboratory system of the New York State Police. (Ret.) Lt. Jiampetti left the uniform force after two decades and moved to the Bureau of Criminal Investigations within the NYSP, focusing on intelligence-based investigations.

Shortly thereafter, Steve was promoted to head the newly formed Social Media Unit at the New York State Intelligence Center focusing on school violence threats, public gatherings, and threats to New York’s top government officials. Within a short period of time, Steve found himself advancing to a second-line supervisory position where he oversaw entire units and set strategic direction. Notably, he provided oversight and dignitary protection for 2 New York State Governors and played a key role within the parameters of New York State’s fusion center, integrating data across agencies to drive proactive intelligence-led policing.

His career also included pioneering work in forensic investigations beginning with a focus group that transformed how the State’s forensic laboratory system manages and handles physical evidence. As a major case coordinator, (Ret.) Lt Jiampetti played a pivotal role in the oversight and management of evidence in high profile homicide cases across New York State.
